Not too long ago, Samsung US revealed a list of devices which will get the latest chocolaty update of the Android 4.4 KitKat in the coming months. This did come as a good news, but what about the international versions?
Recently, a Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski got in touch with a Samsung representative to inquire about the devices which will get the Android 4.4 KitKat, and managed to get a nice list which includes a majority of Galaxy devices.
The list includes: Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Mega 6.3, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Express 2, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, and Galaxy Grand 2 LTE.
Some of these device might directly jump to KitKat, or get Android Jelly Bean first before making a jump to the latest OS. Additionally, there’s no word about the availability of the update for any of the devices, but the process has already started for some devices.
Unfortunately, it seems the Galaxy S3 will not get the taste of Android 4.4 KitKat due to low memory, which is kind of surprising as KitKat is optimized to run on devices with 512MB and Galaxy S3 has 1GB of RAM. Even Samsung Galaxy Grand has 1GB of RAM, and is still present in the list so it can’t be the real reason, or somehow the representative forgot to mention about it. Samsung Galaxy SIII in the US is getting the update, but the US version has 2GB of RAM on board.
Let’s hope it’s not true, we’ll update you as soon as the roll out process commences.
