Samsung has revealed the launch of its new Samsung 14-meter Onyx Cinema LED screen at the Capital Cinema in Beijing.
Samsung’s previous Onyx Cinema LED screen measured 10 meters or 33.6 feet wide, this new one measures 14 meters or 46.2 feet wide.
“Our new Onyx display reflects a momentous step for the industry, as we usher in the next generation of cinema around the globe,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re excited to partner with Capital Cinema to help showcase the new industry standard for picture quality on the big screen.”
Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screens accommodate virtually any venue configuration while also delivering unparalleled picture quality, technical performance and reliability beyond that of traditional projector-based operations. The extraordinary display installed at Capital Theater combines 4K resolution, HDR picture quality and peak brightness level of 88fL — nearly six times greater than standard projector technologies. Onyx is also 3D-ready and Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-certified, providing the flexibility to display a wide variety of content types.
Revolutionizing the Cinema Experience
The introduction of the 14-meter Onyx Cinema LED screen marks a significant advancement in the cinema industry. Traditional projectors have long been the standard for movie theaters, but they come with limitations such as lower brightness levels and less vibrant colors. The Onyx Cinema LED screen, with its 4K resolution and HDR capabilities, offers a much richer and more immersive viewing experience. The peak brightness level of 88fL is nearly six times greater than what standard projectors can achieve, ensuring that every scene is displayed with stunning clarity and vividness.
Moreover, the Onyx Cinema LED screen is 3D-ready, allowing theaters to offer a more dynamic range of viewing options. This is particularly beneficial for blockbuster movies that are often released in both 2D and 3D formats. The Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) certification further ensures that the screen meets the highest standards for digital cinema, making it a versatile choice for theaters looking to upgrade their technology.
Flexibility and Reliability
One of the standout features of the Onyx Cinema LED screen is its flexibility. Unlike traditional projectors, which require specific room configurations and can be limited by the size and shape of the venue, the Onyx screen can be adapted to virtually any space. This makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of venues, from small independent theaters to large multiplexes.
In addition to its flexibility, the Onyx Cinema LED screen offers unparalleled reliability. Traditional projectors rely on bulbs that can burn out and require regular maintenance. In contrast, the LED technology used in the Onyx screen is far more durable and requires less upkeep. This not only reduces the long-term costs for theater owners but also ensures a more consistent viewing experience for audiences.
The partnership between Samsung and Capital Cinema to launch this new screen in Beijing is a testament to the growing demand for high-quality, reliable cinema technology. As more theaters around the world look to upgrade their equipment, the Onyx Cinema LED screen is poised to become the new standard for movie projection.
