RIM has announced the launch of a new version of its BlackBerry Messenger, BBM6, and the new version now has support for BBM connected apps, which gives users an easier way to communicate with each other on their smartphones.
This means that BBM users can chat with each other from within the app they are currently using. For example, a game that supports the service would allow you to chat directly from within the game without having to switch to the messenger app. This seamless integration is designed to enhance the user experience by making communication more fluid and less disruptive.
Enhanced Social Experience
“BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users,” said Alistair Mitchell, VP, BBM Platform & Integrated Services at Research In Motion. “It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.”
The enhanced social experience is not just limited to games. Various other types of apps, such as productivity tools, social networking apps, and even shopping apps, can integrate BBM6 to provide a more interactive and engaging experience. For instance, a productivity app could allow team members to discuss tasks in real-time without leaving the app, thereby increasing efficiency and collaboration.
Opportunities for Developers
The introduction of BBM connected apps opens up a plethora of opportunities for developers. By integrating BBM6 into their apps, developers can tap into the extensive user base of BBM, which has millions of active users worldwide. This can significantly increase the visibility and usage of their apps. Moreover, the viral nature of BBM means that users are likely to share and recommend apps that they find useful, thereby driving organic growth.
Developers can also benefit from the various tools and resources provided by RIM to facilitate the integration of BBM6 into their apps. These include comprehensive documentation, sample codes, and dedicated support to help developers navigate the integration process smoothly. The potential for monetization is also significant, as developers can offer premium features or in-app purchases within their BBM connected apps.
