The iFixit team of engineers has been busy once again with their screwdriver set and has this week dismantled the new Sony Super Slim PlayStation 3 gaming console.
Revealing the PlayStation 3 Super Slim’s inner workings for all to see and awarding it a respectable 7 out of 10 score for repairability, with 10 being the easiest to repair.
As iFixit was taking the new PS3 console apart they have noted that the hard drive in the system is easy to access, repair, and upgrade.
Hard Drive Accessibility
One of the standout features of the PlayStation 3 Super Slim, as highlighted by the iFixit team, is the ease with which users can access the hard drive. This is a significant improvement for gamers who may want to upgrade their storage capacity without too much hassle. The hard drive is located in a compartment that can be easily opened, allowing for quick swaps or upgrades. This feature is particularly beneficial for those who have extensive game libraries or who use their console for multimedia purposes, such as storing movies and music.
Challenges with the Motherboard Assembly
However, not all aspects of the PlayStation 3 Super Slim are as user-friendly. The iFixit team noted that accessing the heatsinks and fan requires the removal of the entire motherboard assembly. This could be a daunting task for those who are not experienced with electronics. The heatsinks and fan are crucial components for maintaining the console’s temperature and ensuring it runs smoothly.
