NXP Power has created a new and innovative lightswitch that requires no electricity to power it. Instead the new light switch harnesses the power of wireless technology to enable you to turn on and off lights with a simple press and zero electricity passing through the switch.
The external power source which is normally required to trigger a light switch is replaced by the tapping of the switch itself. Which generates just enough power to make a connection wirelessly to the lightbulb signalling it to either turn on or off as required.
As you can probably guess if the light switch doesn’t require electricity to power it ought to make the connection to the lightbulb. The light switches can be positioned anywhere within the house or office as long as they are within wireless range of the lightbulb they are required to trigger.
Currently the new powerless light switch is currently still in development and has also been designed to use NFC to wirelessly connect and pair with its corresponding light source.
Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet by NXP, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
