We recently heard a rumor that Nokia had sold around 8 million smartphones in quarter three, Nokia has just announced its latest financial results, and the company announced sales of 8.8 million Lumia devices for the quarter.
Nokia reported net sales of 5.66 billion Euros and a profit of 118 million Euros, this is the first time that Nokia has made a profit for some time, in the previous quarter they made a loss of 114 million Euros, and for the same quarter last year they made a loss of 564 million Euros.
Nokia has managed to increase their sales of their Lumia Windows phone devices from 7.4 million in quarter two up to 8.8 million, and there sales are up for 2.9 million for the same quarter last year.
Of course things will change for Nokia in the future, as their mobile division is being purchased by Microsoft in a deal worth $7.2 billion US dollars.
Nokia will retain the Nokia brand, and Microsoft will take over Nokia’s Lumia brand, which means that we will not see any more Windows Phone smartphones from Nokia.
Under the terms of the deal with Microsoft, Nokia will be able to produce feature phones from 2016 onwards, of course these will not be the smartphones that we see from the company today.
