Nokia has just released a new beta version of its Ovi Maps suite that is now available to download through the beta Labs channel.
The new 3.6 Ovi Maps version now allows you to download street maps directly to your mobile device using a new feature called ‘Update’.

Ovi Maps also includes a Check-in feature that allows you to keep your friends up-to-date with where you are and what you’re up to. You can Check in to places and then share it with your friends on Facebook and other social networks sites. Watch the video below to see Check-in in action.
Enhanced Navigation Features
The Ovi Maps 3.6 beta version brings several enhancements to the navigation experience. You can now use Ovi Maps to navigate to your destination with free Drive or Walk navigation in 78 countries. This feature is particularly useful for travelers and daily commuters who rely on accurate and up-to-date maps. The Drive navigation provides turn-by-turn voice guidance, while the Walk navigation offers pedestrian-friendly routes, ensuring you can find your way whether you’re driving or walking.
Additionally, the new ‘Update’ feature allows users to download the latest street maps directly to their mobile devices. This ensures that you always have the most current maps without needing to connect to a computer. This is a significant improvement for users who are constantly on the move and need reliable map data at their fingertips.
Social Integration and Sharing
One of the standout features of the new Ovi Maps is its social integration capabilities. The Check-in feature allows users to share their location with friends and family on social media platforms like Facebook. This feature not only helps you keep your loved ones informed about your whereabouts but also adds a fun element to your travels. Imagine checking in at famous landmarks, restaurants, or events and sharing those moments instantly with your social network.
Moreover, the Check-in feature can be a valuable tool for organizing meetups and gatherings. By sharing your location, you can easily coordinate with friends and family, making it simpler to find each other in crowded places or unfamiliar areas. This feature enhances the overall user experience by combining navigation with social connectivity.
In addition to these features, Ovi Maps also offers a range of other functionalities that make it a comprehensive navigation tool. For instance, users can access points of interest (POIs) such as restaurants, gas stations, and tourist attractions. This makes it easier to find essential services and interesting places to visit while on the go.
Furthermore, Ovi Maps supports offline usage, allowing you to download maps and use them without an internet connection. This is particularly useful for travelers who may not always have access to mobile data or Wi-Fi. By downloading maps in advance, you can ensure that you have reliable navigation even in remote areas.
Overall, the new Ovi Maps 3.6 beta version offers a range of features that enhance the navigation experience. From the ability to download maps directly to your device to the social integration capabilities, Ovi Maps provides a comprehensive solution for all your navigation needs. Whether you’re driving, walking, or exploring new places, Ovi Maps has you covered.
