Apple recently released their new iTunes 12.2, along with iOS 8.4 and OS X 10.10.4. The picture above was discovered in the latest iTunes release and it shows some new iPods.
The picture shows a new dark blue iPod Touch, plus a gold iPod Nano and a dark pink iPod Shuffle. Apple does not offer these colors for their iPods at the moment.
Discovery and Speculation
The photo was originally discovered by the guys over at Belgium iPhone and Mark Gurman from 9 to 5 Mac also discovered that these three iPod color options will be available on all three devices: the iPod Touch, the iPod Shuffle, and the iPod Nano.
As yet, there are no details on when Apple will launch these new color versions of their iPods. They could possibly be unveiled in September along with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. This timing would align with Apple’s usual product release cycle, which often sees new hardware and software updates announced in the fall.
Potential Hardware Updates
It is not clear as yet what hardware updates these new iPods will come with. Historically, Apple has used color updates as an opportunity to refresh the internal components of their devices. For instance, the iPod Touch could see improvements in its processor, camera, and storage options, making it more competitive with other portable media players and even entry-level smartphones.
The iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle, while more niche products, could also benefit from enhancements such as better battery life, increased storage capacity, and improved user interfaces. Given the rise of streaming services, it would be interesting to see if Apple integrates more robust support for Apple Music and other streaming platforms into these devices.
Market Impact and Consumer Interest
The introduction of new colors could also be a strategic move by Apple to reignite consumer interest in the iPod lineup. While the iPod was once a flagship product for Apple, its popularity has waned in the age of smartphones. However, there remains a dedicated market for these devices, particularly among fitness enthusiasts who appreciate the lightweight and compact design of the iPod Shuffle and Nano.
Moreover, the iPod Touch continues to serve as an excellent entry-level device for younger users and those who prefer a dedicated music player without the distractions of a smartphone. By offering new color options, Apple can appeal to a broader audience and potentially boost sales.
As soon as we get some more information, we will let you guys know. Stay tuned for updates on the potential release date, hardware specifications, and any other exciting features that Apple might introduce with these new iPod models.
