BMW has announced some new high-powered versions of its X5 and X7 SUVs, the BMW X5 M50i and BMW X7 M50i.
The new M50i engines come with 530 horsepower and are powered by a V8 and come with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The X5 model comes with a 0 to 62 miles per hour time of 4.3 seconds and the X7 4.7 seconds.
Performance and Engineering
The heart of these new models is the 4.4-liter V8 engine, which is equipped with the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. This includes two twin-scroll turbochargers, High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing, and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. These features ensure that the engine delivers not only impressive power but also remarkable efficiency and responsiveness. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system further enhances the driving experience by providing optimal traction and stability in various driving conditions.
The BMW X5 M50i and X7 M50i also come with an M Sport differential, which improves handling and agility by distributing torque between the rear wheels as needed. This ensures that both models offer a dynamic and engaging driving experience, whether you’re navigating tight corners or cruising on the highway.
Design and Features
Like the drive and suspension technology, the model-specific design features of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7 M50i have passed through a consistent design process that has resulted in an absolutely breath-taking motoring experience. The exterior design of both models is characterized by aggressive styling cues, including larger air intakes, unique M-specific kidney grilles, and distinctive rear diffusers. These elements not only enhance the visual appeal of the vehicles but also contribute to their aerodynamic efficiency.
Moreover, the exclusive nature of the new 8-cylinder models is reflected in the extremely high quality of their standard equipment. Inside, you’ll find luxurious materials such as Vernasca leather upholstery, Fineline Stripe brown high-gloss wood trim, and an Anthracite headliner. The cabins are also equipped with the latest technology, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen display, and the BMW iDrive 7.0 system with gesture control and voice recognition.
Both models also come with a host of advanced driver assistance systems, such as Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assistant, and Traffic Jam Assistant. These features not only enhance safety but also make driving more convenient and enjoyable.
The new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7 M50i will be produced from August 2019 at the BMW plant in Spartanburg in the USA and will be available from autumn 2019.
