Update 24th February
Apple has now officially launched its 2011 MacBook Pro’s, full details at the link below.
2011 MacBook Pro Full Specifications
Yesterday we saw some specifications on the new MacBook Pro’s, the specifications were for the 13 inch MacBook Pro, and it looks like the 13 inch model will come with Intel HD 3000 graphics.
But what about the 15 and 17 inch models? According to CNET, Apple will be switching from NVIDIA discrete graphics to AMD discrete graphics.
15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro/AMD graphics: AMD (formerly ATI) “discrete” graphics silicon is now offered in the larger, more powerful MBPs. As in previous MacBook Pros, the discrete graphics chip is only fired up when heavy lifting is needed. When power savings is paramount or high-end graphics processing is not necessary, the system defaults to Intel’s graphics.
Enhanced Performance and Graphics
The switch to AMD discrete graphics in the 15- and 17-inch models marks a significant upgrade in the MacBook Pro lineup. AMD’s Radeon graphics are known for their superior performance in handling intensive tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, and gaming. This change is expected to provide users with a more robust and seamless experience, especially for professionals who rely on high-performance computing.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro, while not featuring the AMD discrete graphics, still offers a substantial upgrade with the Intel HD 3000 graphics. This integrated graphics solution is designed to handle everyday tasks with ease, including streaming high-definition videos, running multiple applications simultaneously, and even some light gaming.
Additional Features and Improvements
Beyond the graphics upgrade, the 2011 MacBook Pro models come with several other enhancements. One of the most notable is the introduction of Intel’s second-generation Core processors, also known as Sandy Bridge. These processors offer improved performance and efficiency, making the new MacBook Pros faster and more responsive than their predecessors.
Another significant addition is the Thunderbolt I/O technology, which Apple has integrated into the new MacBook Pros. Thunderbolt offers incredibly fast data transfer speeds, up to 10 Gbps, which is twice as fast as USB 3.0. This technology is particularly beneficial for users who need to transfer large files quickly, such as video editors and photographers.
The new MacBook Pros also feature an upgraded FaceTime HD camera, providing higher resolution video calls. This is a welcome improvement for users who frequently use video conferencing tools for work or to stay connected with family and friends.
Battery life has always been a strong point for MacBook Pros, and the 2011 models continue this tradition. Despite the more powerful hardware, Apple has managed to maintain impressive battery life, ensuring that users can work for extended periods without needing to recharge.
We will have more details later today when Apple unveils the new 2011 MacBook Pro’s.
