Netflix has announced a very cool new deal today that has been put in place with Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Television. The deal will see Netflix get all new episodes of the very popular series Arrested Development that was cancelled five years ago. The deal will bring the characters back after a long hiatus.
Arrested Development was only on for three seasons, but it was critically acclaimed and has been on Time’s top 100 shows of all time list. The new episodes will come starting in 2013. This is very interesting because this marks the first time a streaming service has had new and popular shows exclusively for it.
I hope that this continues I would love to see Netflix get into making its own shows. That is as long as those shows are good. Netflix’s bold entrance into original programming presents an exciting new opportunity for our two companies” commented Peter Levinsohn, Fox Filmed Entertainment’s President of New Media & Digital Distribution. “Bringing a classic show back to production on new episodes exclusively for Netflix customers is a game changer, and illustrates the incredible potential the new digital landscape affords great content providers like Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine.”
