V-Bridge has created a new open source modulator development board called the MUSES, which has taken to Kickstarter to raise the $80,000 it requires over the next 60 days to make the jump into production.
The MUSES digital TV format includes the DVB T/C, ATSC/QAM, DTMB, ISDB-T/TB, and built in MPEG-2 and H.264 hardware encoder. Watch the video below to learn more about its inspiration, features and functionality.
The developers of MUSES, V-Bridge explain a little more about its development :
MUSES is an innovation modulator product and base on open source platform, using MUSES development board and official free resources, you’ll be able to build your own digital TV broadcaster system. It can use for DTV head-end, Drone, surveillance, DTV amateur device and others.
MUSES is the first modular modulator development board, it can receive the video data and transforming the signal to digital TV format, and the signal will be transmitted into coaxial cable. Using the coaxial characteristic: long-distance transmission and broadcast, the modulator development board can be the personal DTV broadcaster.
MUSES is also the first universal modulator development board in the world, and it supports the DVB-T/C, ATSC/QAM, DTMB and ISDB-T/TB DTV formats. The development board can be divided to three parts: Modulator board(MUSES-α、β), Video board, RF board. MUSES-α、β are the core of the MUSES, and they will transform the video signal to be the DTV format, and output the baseband signal into the RF board. In addition, MUSES-β includes the FHD encoder can receive the HDMI, Composite and other BT656/1120 signals.
The whole system is controlled by the extended microprocessor. In our solution, we use different interfaces to communicate with video, modulator and RF boards. You can use the embedded source code and follow our protocol, it’s the simplest way. MUSES can collocate with common microprocessors, such the STMicroelectronics and Nuvoton series MCU, and the system command is transmitted by I2C bus.
In order to achieve universal in the world, we chose VATek’s modulator chips, and their chips are the only one can support multi-formats signal in the world. The modulation formats include the DVB-T/C, ATSC/QAM, DTMB and ISDB-T(B2). In addition, the MUSES-β modulator chip, ENMODER B2, it includes the MPEG-2 FHD and H.264 SD hardware encoder, and let the product can be more applications and simplify the circuit design. If you only need the TS serial/parallel and USB interfaces, MUSES-α board can satisfy your requirement, and it has more efficiency.
