Mini has a new car that is meant to pay homage to the 1275GT of 1969. The new car is called the 1499GT and the number in the name is from the displacement of the engine in cubic centimeters. The car uses a 1.5L three-cylinder engine that makes a scant 101hp.
That is far from a performance car, but the engine is said to be light putting little weight on the front wheels. It’s also said to sound pretty good to boot. The 1499GT model has special edition stickers, 17-inch wheels, white lenses for turn signals, and dark window tint. It also gets the bumpers, side skirts, doorsill plates, and rear spoiler from the John Cooper Works Mini.
1499GT buyers also get sport suspension, JCW sport seats in leather. Other trim is about the same as the Mini One hatch that isn’t sold in the US. If you like what you see, the big let down here is that the car is a UK exclusive and limited to 1499 units only. That scant 101hp will get you to 60mph in 10.1 seconds.
