Apple will launch their first device with a sapphire glass display next year, the Apple Watch, and now according to a recent report, the iPhone 6S or the iPhone 7 may end up with a sapphire glass display.
Apple had formed a partnership with GT Advanced who recently filed for bankruptcy, but now it would appear that Apple has not abandoned its plans for iPhone sapphire glass displays.
According to a recent report, one of Apple’s manufacturing partners, Foxconn, is setting up a new plant in China to make sapphire displays for Apple.
The new plant will be used to solely supply components to Apple, and Foxconn are reported to be spending $2.6 billion on the plant.
Whether or not Foxconn will be able to build the factory and also have it producing sapphire glass by the time the iPhone 6S launches remains to be seen, we may have to wait until the following year to have an iPhone with a sapphire glass display.
