Apple announced their sixth generation iPhone on Wednesday, the iPhone 5, and it is now available to pre-order from Apple’s app store app on your iPhone or iPad. The web store is still down at the time of writing this, and it will go on sale in Apple stores and various mobile retailers next Friday, the 21st of September.
The iPhone 5 features a new design with a case which is made from aluminum and glass. It comes with a larger 4-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, offering a more immersive and vibrant viewing experience compared to its predecessors. This new display not only enhances the visual appeal but also provides a better aspect ratio for watching videos and playing games.
Enhanced Performance with the A6 Processor
The iPhone 5 features a new faster Apple A6 processor, which promises to deliver up to twice the CPU and graphics performance compared to the A5 chip found in the iPhone 4S. This means that apps will launch faster, games will run more smoothly, and overall system performance will be significantly improved. The A6 processor is also designed to be more power-efficient, which should help extend battery life despite the increased performance.
Additionally, the iPhone 5 comes with a smaller Nano SIM card, which is 44% smaller than the Micro SIM used in previous models. This change helps to save space inside the device, allowing for a slimmer and lighter design. The iPhone 5 is also the first iPhone to support LTE connectivity, providing faster internet speeds and improved network performance.
Introducing the Lightning Connector
One of the most talked-about features of the iPhone 5 is the new dock connector, which Apple calls the Lightning connector. This new connector is smaller and more durable than the previous 30-pin connector, and it is also reversible, meaning it can be plugged in either way up. This change, however, means that older accessories that use the 30-pin connector will require an adapter to work with the iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5 also boasts an improved camera system. While it retains the 8-megapixel resolution of the iPhone 4S, it features a sapphire crystal lens cover for better durability and clarity. The camera also includes enhanced low-light performance and faster photo capture speeds. Additionally, the front-facing camera has been upgraded to 1.2 megapixels and now supports 720p HD video recording, making FaceTime calls clearer and more detailed.
