Imagination Technologies announced last month that Apple had decided not to use the company’s graphic chips in future versions of the iPhone.
Apple were said to be developing their own graphics chip for the iPhone and Imagination Technologies accused Apple of possibly infringing on their patents with their new chip.
The company has now announced that it has started a dispute resolution process with Apple over the graphics chips, you can see a statement from them below.
Imagination has been unable to make satisfactory progress with Apple to date regarding alternative commercial arrangements for the current licence and royalty agreement.
Imagination has therefore commenced the dispute resolution procedure under the licence agreement with a view to reaching an agreement through a more structured process.
Imagination has reserved all its rights in respect of Apple’s unauthorised use of Imagination’s confidential information and Imagination’s intellectual property rights.
Imagination also announced that it would be selling off two parts of its business, MIPS and Ensigma and concentrate on its PowerVR graphics business.
Apple’s business with the company generates around 50 percent of its overall revenue, so if it loses Apple as a customer, it would reduce its turnover significantly.
Whether or note Imagination Technologies and Apple are able to come to an agreement remain to be seen, as soon as we get some more details, we will let you guys know.
