Lamborghini and its renowned restoration team, Polo Storico, have achieved a remarkable feat by restoring a one-off Lamborghini Miura SVR. This iconic vehicle, which has spent the majority of its life in Japan, has now been meticulously restored to its former glory by the experts at Lamborghini.
The History of the Lamborghini Miura SVR
The Lamborghini Miura SVR is a rare gem in the automotive world. Originally produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Miura series is often credited with establishing the template for high-performance, mid-engine sports cars. The SVR variant, however, is even more special. It was a one-off model that was modified extensively from the original Miura to meet the specific desires of its owner. The car’s journey took it to Japan, where it became a legend among car enthusiasts.
The Miura SVR’s unique modifications included a more aggressive body kit, enhanced aerodynamics, and a more powerful engine. These changes made it a standout even among other Miuras, which were already considered revolutionary for their time. The car’s rarity and unique features have made it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
The Restoration Process
Paolo Gabrielli, Lamborghini Head of After Sales and Director of the Polo Storico, explained the complexities involved in the restoration process. He said, “The full restoration took 19 months and required a different approach to the way we normally work. The original production sheet wasn’t of much help, as we relied mostly on the specifications from the 1974 modifications. The challenge for the Polo Storico team was even more daunting as the car arrived in Sant’Agata in pieces, although the parts were all there, and with considerable modifications. The only variations on the original specifications were the addition of 4-point safety belts, more supportive seats and a removable roll bar. These were expressly requested by the customer and are intended to improve safety during the car’s racetrack exhibitions.”
The restoration process was a labor of love and required a meticulous approach. The Polo Storico team had to disassemble the car completely, catalog each part, and then painstakingly restore or replace components as needed. Given the car’s extensive modifications, this was no small feat. The team had to ensure that every part met the original specifications while also incorporating the unique modifications that made the SVR special.
The restoration also involved modernizing certain aspects of the car to meet current safety standards. The addition of 4-point safety belts, more supportive seats, and a removable roll bar were crucial for ensuring the car could be safely driven on modern racetracks. These updates were made with the utmost care to preserve the car’s original character and performance.
The end result is a stunning example of automotive history brought back to life. The restored Miura SVR not only looks as good as it did when it first rolled off the production line but also performs to the high standards expected of a Lamborghini. This restoration is a testament to the skill and dedication of the Polo Storico team and serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the Lamborghini Miura.
