Nokia and HTC were fighting in court over patent infringement, resulting in the ban of HTC One Mini in the UK. However, the ruling did bring another important thing to light, the launch of the successor of HTC One dubbed as HTC M8. According to a court document written by the presiding judge, HTC One’s successor may launch in the first quarter of 2014, or as early as February 2014.
There’s another interesting side to this story. When the speculation of the launch of HTC M8 was made, HTC didn’t contradict the claim, which makes it a possibility that HTC One’s successor will launch in the first quarter of 2014.
We’ve seen several leaks about the specifications of HTC M8 mentioning that it will come with a Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB RAM, 5-inch display sporting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and is expected to run Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.0 out of the box.
Here’s an extract from the ruling:
HTC is close to launching the successor flagship model to the HTC One. HTC has not revealed the launch date. Nokia has adduced evidence which suggests that the launch date is in the first quarter of 2014, and possibly as early as February 2014.
First quarter of 2014 is pretty important as two big events will take place. In January, a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow CES 2014 will take place while MWC 2014 will take place by the end of February in Barcelona.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed. We’ll update you as soon as any information about HTC M8 comes up.
