HP first announced their new HP ElitePad 900 Windows 8 tablet back at the beginning of October this year which is equipped with a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 resolution display and an active digitiser. But be aware that Windows 8 does require a 1366 x 768 resolution or higher for some features to work as designed.
Now HP has unveiled that the new Windows 8 ElitePad 900 tablet is now available to pre-order for $649 for the 32GB version and $699 for the 64GB ElitePad 900 tablet.
Specifications and Features
The ElitePad 900 is powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor supported by 2GB of RAM and comes supplied running Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 Pro operating system. This combination ensures that the tablet can handle a variety of tasks, from basic productivity applications to more demanding software, although it may not be suitable for high-end gaming or intensive graphic design work.
Other features of the HP ElitePad 900 tablet include 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8MP rear camera, 1080p front-facing camera and micro SDHC card slot. The inclusion of both front and rear cameras makes it a versatile device for both video conferencing and capturing high-quality photos and videos. The micro SDHC card slot allows for expandable storage, which is particularly useful for users who need to store large files or a significant amount of media.
Design and Usability
The design of the HP ElitePad 900 is sleek and professional, making it an ideal choice for business users. The 10.1-inch display is large enough to comfortably view documents and media, yet the tablet remains portable and easy to carry. The active digitiser is a standout feature, allowing for precise input with a stylus, which is perfect for note-taking, drawing, or other tasks that require fine control.
One of the key selling points of the ElitePad 900 is its compatibility with a range of accessories designed to enhance its functionality. For example, the HP ElitePad Expansion Jacket adds additional ports and battery life, transforming the tablet into a more versatile device. There are also docking stations available that can turn the ElitePad 900 into a full desktop workstation, complete with external monitors, keyboards, and other peripherals.
The tablet’s build quality is robust, featuring durable materials that can withstand the rigors of daily use. This durability is complemented by a range of security features, including hardware encryption and secure boot, making it a reliable choice for enterprise environments where data security is paramount.
Performance and User Experience
In terms of performance, the Intel Atom Z2760 processor and 2GB of RAM provide a smooth user experience for most everyday tasks. Users can expect responsive performance when browsing the web, checking emails, and using office applications. However, those looking to run more resource-intensive applications may find the hardware limitations a bit restrictive.
The Windows 8 Pro operating system offers a range of features that enhance productivity, such as multitasking capabilities and a user-friendly interface. The ability to run traditional desktop applications alongside modern apps from the Windows Store provides a flexible and versatile user experience.
Battery life is another important consideration, and the ElitePad 900 does not disappoint. Users can expect several hours of use on a single charge, making it suitable for a full day of work or travel. The optional Expansion Jacket can further extend battery life, ensuring that the tablet remains powered throughout the day.
The HP ElitePad 900 is a well-rounded Windows 8 tablet that offers a good balance of performance, design, and functionality. Its range of features and accessories make it a versatile choice for both business and personal use. With its robust build quality and security features, it is particularly well-suited for enterprise environments. The availability of pre-orders at competitive prices makes it an attractive option for those looking to invest in a new tablet.
