Honda has debuted the Clarity EV and the specs are not good at all compared to the competition. The Clarity can only go 80 miles on a single charge. This in an era where the Chevy Bolt is good for 238 miles on a charge. The reason for the poor driving range comes down to decisions Honda made and wouldn’t change.
Namely the size of the Clarity platform and the cost of the battery version. The Clarity is expected to start at about $35,000 before tax credits or incentives. It’s very hard to imagine buyers wanting the Clarity with such a merger driving rage.
In the real world the driving range tends to be even less than the manufacturer’s quoted. The big upside is that the Clarity is apparently larger than the other cars in its range. With EV buyers big on range, the Clarity may be a hard sell.
