Rumors suggest Google will release a Nexus smartphone later this year, but that might be the last Nexus from the search engine giant for now. Several rumors hinted that Google will discontinue the Nexus line, but there’s no official word as of now.
According to a new report, Google is working on a low priced handset with a MediaTek processor under the hood. Google Nexus devices already comes with a pretty affordable price tag with top-of-the-line hardware under the hood.
Google Nexus line up is fairly popular due to stock Android, as well as competitive pricing. Now, using a MediaTek processor instead of Qualcomm will definitely bring a considerable reduction in price of the handset.
The report comes from Chinese shores, citing trusted supply chain sources, who says the search engine giant teamed up with MediaTek, and the price of the handset could be as low as $100.
If it turns out to be correct, it would be a very interesting handset, but there’s no word if it will bring high-end specifications at the table. There’s no official word from Google or MediaTek regarding this, but we’ll definitely hear more about it in the coming days.
