Google is continuing to integrate its Google+ into its Android OS, and from next year, when you telephone an Android device from a Google+ verified phone number, your Google+ profile photo will appear on the handset you are calling.
If you have verified your phone number on your Google account, when you phone one of your friends on an Android device, it will automatically show them your Google+ photo.
This is the coolest part of the new Caller ID by Google feature my team worked on, and we’re finally announcing it for early 2014:
“Coming in early 2014, users who have verified their phone number and have discovery turned on will have their names and Google Profile photos display whenever they call you, or you call them (it’s great if a new friend who hasn’t been saved in your contacts yet calls you). Check your Google Account to make sure you are happy with how you appear on caller ID by Google: http://goo.gl/g9P3Bp ”
Enhanced Caller ID Experience
This new feature aims to enhance the caller ID experience by providing more context to incoming calls. Imagine receiving a call from a new acquaintance or a business contact; seeing their Google+ profile photo and name can help you quickly identify who is calling. This can be particularly useful in professional settings where recognizing a caller’s identity at a glance can save time and avoid confusion.
Moreover, this feature can also help in personal scenarios. For instance, if you have a large circle of friends and family, it can be challenging to remember every phone number. With the Google+ profile photo appearing on the caller ID, you can instantly recognize who is calling, making your interactions more personal and engaging.
Privacy and Control
Of course, everyone may not want to use this feature, and you will be able to choose whether or not to use the feature when it is introduced next year. Google understands the importance of privacy and control over personal information. Users will have the option to opt-in or opt-out of this feature, ensuring that they have full control over how their information is shared.
To manage this feature, you can visit your Google Account settings and decide how you want to appear on caller ID by Google. This flexibility ensures that you can enjoy the benefits of enhanced caller ID while maintaining your privacy preferences.
Additionally, this feature is part of Google’s broader strategy to integrate its services more seamlessly. By linking Google+ with Android’s caller ID, Google aims to create a more cohesive and user-friendly ecosystem. This integration is just one example of how Google is leveraging its various platforms to provide a more connected and intuitive user experience.
The integration of Google+ profile photos into Android’s caller ID is a step towards making communication more personal and efficient. Whether for personal or professional use, this feature can enhance your calling experience by providing instant recognition of callers. With the option to control your privacy settings, you can enjoy the benefits of this feature while maintaining your desired level of privacy.
