Google has added a new feature to Google Search, called +1, a new social sharing button that will appear in Google Search results, and it is designed to let you share recommendations within Google Search.
The +1 button appears in search results next to search results and also next to Google adverts, and it looks like Google is attempting to take on Facebook and their Like button.
Today we’re taking that a step further, enabling you to share recommendations with the world right in Google’s search results. It’s called +1—the digital shorthand for “this is pretty cool.” To recommend something, all you have to do is click +1 on a webpage or ad you find useful. These +1’s will then start appearing in Google’s search results
Google have said that they will be rolling out the new Google +1 feature to search starting with English on Google.com, but you can trial the feature now by visiting their experimental search site, have a look at the video below.
How Google +1 Works
The Google +1 button is designed to make it easier for users to share their favorite content directly from the search results page. When you click the +1 button on a search result or an advertisement, it signals to others that you found that particular link useful or interesting. This recommendation can be seen by your social connections when they are logged into their Google accounts, adding a layer of social proof to the search results.
This feature is particularly useful for content creators and businesses, as it can help increase the visibility of their content. For example, if a user finds a helpful article on digital marketing and clicks the +1 button, their friends and colleagues who are also interested in digital marketing might see that recommendation and be more likely to click on the link themselves.
Implications for SEO and Online Marketing
The introduction of the +1 button has significant implications for SEO and online marketing strategies. With the integration of social recommendations into search results, businesses and content creators need to focus not only on traditional SEO techniques but also on social engagement. High-quality content that resonates with users is more likely to receive +1s, which can improve its ranking in search results.
Moreover, the +1 button can serve as a valuable tool for gathering user feedback. By analyzing which pages and ads receive the most +1s, businesses can gain insights into what type of content their audience finds most valuable. This data can then be used to refine content strategies and improve overall user engagement.
