We have been hearing rumors for a while that a consortium of German car makers, which include BMW, Audi and Mercedes are in the process of buying Nokia’s HERE Maps.
Other companies, including Uber had been interested in buying HERE Maps, although it would appear that Uber has dropped out of the bidding and the German car makers are the front runners to take over Nokia’s mapping service.
Nokia apparently wants $4 billion for HERE Maps, a price which many companies have not been willing to pay, the German car makers are apparently trying to negotiate the price with Nokia for a lower deal.
The deal between Nokia and the car makers is not signed, the discussions are apparently ongoing and the deal may not go ahead if Nokia doesn’t move on the price. If Nokia and the German car makers are able to come to an agreement, then we could get some sort of official announcement next month.
