Gamin has unveiled a follow up to the original fenix sports watch called the . The new watch is designed to work with multiple sports and offers full GPS capability. The watch has features for running, climbing, riding, hiking, skiing, and swimming. There are dedicated training modes for swimming and skiing. it can also show notifications from the iPhone 4S or higher.
The watch has an integrated altimeter, barometer, and a 3-axis compass. The fenix 2 can also be used with a pace and heart rate monitor that is sold separately called the HRM-run. That monitor can offer feedback on running form as well. The watch can also hold the users time, distance and speed goals to help them keep track of those goals.
The watch uses Bluetooth Smart capability to upload performance data to the Garmin online community. The GPS mode of the watch automatically lays breadcrumbs to get you back to camp or home. The watch supports 10,000 track points and up to 1000 waypoints. That GPS data can be shared wirelessly with other Garmin devices. The watch will run for 50 hours in GPS mode and for five weeks in watch mode per charge. The fenix 2 alone will sell for $399.99 and when bundled with the heart rate monitor it will sell for $449.99.
