We have featured some fairly large constructions using Lego bricks here on Geeky Gadgets over the years, but I don’t think we’ve ever featured a full-size caravan made completely of Lego bricks.
Here enters the life-sized Lego teardrop caravan that has been created as an exhibit piece for this year’s 2015 Motorhome & Caravan Show in the UK.
The Lego caravan measures 7.2 x 11.8 ft and has been constructed using 215,158 Lego bricks, making it the official winner of the Guinness world record for the “largest caravan built with interlocking plastic bricks”.
The Construction Process
The construction of this impressive Lego caravan was no small feat. It required a team of skilled Lego builders who meticulously planned and executed the design. The project took over 12 weeks to complete, with builders working tirelessly to ensure every brick was perfectly placed. The caravan includes intricate details such as a Lego-built sink, stove, and even a bed, showcasing the versatility and creativity that Lego bricks can offer.
The builders faced several challenges during the construction process. One of the main difficulties was ensuring the structural integrity of the caravan, as it needed to be sturdy enough to hold its own weight and the weight of any visitors. To achieve this, the team used a combination of traditional Lego building techniques and some innovative engineering solutions.
Features and Amenities
Internally, all the accessories and fittings are also constructed from Lego bricks, but residents have the luxury of running water and internal lighting to help ease their stay. The caravan is equipped with a fully functional kitchen, complete with a Lego-built refrigerator and cabinets. The bathroom features a Lego sink and toilet, and the living area includes a Lego sofa and table.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Lego caravan is its attention to detail. The builders included small touches such as Lego-built curtains, a Lego television, and even Lego plants to make the space feel more homely. These details not only add to the aesthetic appeal of the caravan but also demonstrate the incredible potential of Lego bricks as a building material.
