Flickr’s Photo Upload tool had been available for free since it launched last year, the tool allowed you to bulk upload photos from your computer.
Now Flickr has announced that their Photo Upload tool will only be available to their paid subscribers, it will no longer be available on free accounts.
Changes to Flickr’s Photo Upload Tool
The decision to make the Photo Upload tool a paid feature is part of Flickr’s broader strategy to enhance the value of its Pro membership. The tool, known as the desktop Auto-Uploadr, has been a favorite among users for its ability to effortlessly upload large batches of photos from various storage locations on their computers. This feature is particularly useful for professional photographers and avid photo enthusiasts who need to manage and organize extensive photo libraries.
The biggest change is that we are making the desktop Auto-Uploadr a Flickr Pro-only feature, giving Pro members exclusive access to the tool. This feature lets you effortlessly upload all of your photos from wherever they are being stored, while making them accessible from any device. If you are already a Pro member, you won’t see any changes to your existing subscription.
For any members with free accounts, you can continue enjoying the Auto-Uploadr by upgrading to Flickr Pro in the next 14 days. In order to make this transition easier, we’re offering a 30% discount on the annual Flickr Pro membership.
Benefits of Flickr Pro Membership
Flickr Pro membership offers a range of benefits beyond the Auto-Uploadr tool. Pro members enjoy unlimited storage for their photos, advanced statistics to track photo views and engagement, and an ad-free browsing experience. Additionally, Pro members receive priority customer support and access to exclusive discounts on Adobe Creative Cloud, Blurb photo books, and more.
The move to make the Auto-Uploadr a Pro-only feature is likely aimed at encouraging more users to upgrade to the Pro membership, thereby generating additional revenue for Flickr. This change also aligns with the industry trend of offering premium features to paying subscribers, ensuring that the platform can continue to invest in new tools and improvements.
For users who rely heavily on the Auto-Uploadr tool, the transition to a paid model may be seen as a necessary investment to maintain their workflow efficiency. The 30% discount on the annual Pro membership is a limited-time offer designed to ease the transition for free account holders who wish to upgrade.
