We are expecting Nokia to start selling their first Windows Phone 7 devices in Europe around October time, but we haven’t heard any details of any actual Nokia WP7 devices until now.
It looks like some photos of the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 handset have been leaked, and Hungarian website technet has released a video along with some photos of what they are reporting is the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 smartphone, and as you can see from the photos below it looks very similar to the new Nokia N9.
The photos and video come from an internal Nokia presentation to Nokia employees about the company’s first Windows Phone 7 device, and you can see the video below.
Design and Features
The leaked photos reveal a sleek and modern design that closely resembles the Nokia N9, which is known for its minimalist aesthetic and high-quality build. The device appears to feature a unibody design with a polycarbonate shell, which is both durable and lightweight. The front of the phone is dominated by a large touchscreen, likely around 4 inches, which is typical for smartphones of that era. The absence of physical buttons on the front suggests that the device relies heavily on touch-based navigation, a hallmark of Windows Phone 7’s Metro UI.
In terms of hardware, the Nokia Windows Phone 7 device is expected to come with a powerful processor, possibly a Qualcomm Snapdragon, to ensure smooth performance. The camera setup is also likely to be impressive, given Nokia’s history of focusing on camera quality. The N9, for instance, featured an 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see similar or even better specifications in this new device.
Software and Ecosystem
Windows Phone 7, developed by Microsoft, is known for its unique tile-based interface, which offers a refreshing change from the icon-based layouts of iOS and Android. The operating system is designed to provide a seamless and intuitive user experience, with features like Live Tiles that update in real-time to show information such as new messages, weather updates, and social media notifications.
One of the key selling points of Windows Phone 7 is its integration with Microsoft services like Office, OneDrive, and Xbox Live. This makes it an attractive option for users who are already invested in the Microsoft ecosystem. The Nokia device is expected to come pre-loaded with these services, offering a cohesive experience for productivity, cloud storage, and gaming.
Moreover, the Windows Phone Marketplace, although smaller than the App Store and Google Play, offers a curated selection of apps that are optimized for the platform. Popular apps like Facebook, Twitter, and Spotify are available, ensuring that users have access to essential services right out of the box.
The collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft is seen as a strategic move to challenge the dominance of Apple and Google in the smartphone market. By combining Nokia’s hardware expertise with Microsoft’s software capabilities, the two companies aim to offer a compelling alternative to consumers.
