Motorola has announced that the first generation Moto X, Moto G LTE, and Moto E will be skipping the Android 5.0 update and all three handsets will go straight to Android 5.1.
The news that the three handsets will go straight to Android 5.1 rather than receiving the Android 5.0 update was announced by Motorola’s David Schuster.
As some of you might know, we’ve been testing Lollipop 5.0.2 upgrades on Moto X (1st Gen), Moto E (1st Gen) and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen) in several regions. In parallel, we have started testing Lollipop 5.1 which was recently released by Google. Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1.
Why Skip Android 5.0?
The decision to skip Android 5.0 and move directly to Android 5.1 is rooted in the significant improvements and bug fixes that Android 5.1 offers over its predecessor. Android 5.0 Lollipop introduced a range of new features and a completely revamped user interface with Material Design. However, it also came with a number of bugs and performance issues that affected user experience. By moving directly to Android 5.1, Motorola aims to provide a more stable and refined experience for its users.
Android 5.1 Lollipop includes enhancements such as improved battery management, better notification controls, and a more efficient memory management system. These improvements are particularly beneficial for older devices like the first generation Moto X, Moto G LTE, and Moto E, which may struggle with the resource demands of Android 5.0.
What to Expect from Android 5.1
Users of the first generation Moto X, Moto G LTE, and Moto E can look forward to a host of new features and improvements with the Android 5.1 update. Some of the key enhancements include:
1. Improved Stability and Performance: Android 5.1 addresses many of the bugs and performance issues found in Android 5.0, resulting in a smoother and more reliable user experience.
2. Enhanced Security: The update includes important security patches and improvements, making your device more secure against potential threats.
3. Better Battery Life: With improved battery management, users can expect longer battery life, even with heavy usage.
4. New Quick Settings: The Quick Settings menu has been revamped to provide easier access to frequently used settings, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and flashlight.
5. HD Voice Calling: For devices that support it, Android 5.1 brings HD voice calling, which offers clearer and more natural-sounding voice calls.
6. Device Protection: This feature ensures that your device remains locked, even if it is reset to factory settings, unless you log in with your Google account. This is particularly useful in case your device is lost or stolen.
As yet, there are no details on when the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be released for the first generation Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G LTE. However, Motorola is known for its timely updates, so users can expect the rollout to begin soon. As soon as we get more details, we will let you guys know.
