Following on from the announcement last week that Ubisoft is planning to run a two-week closed beta of their new Far Cry 3 game later this year for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Ubisoft has this week released a new trailer revealing single-player gameplay within the Far Cry 3 game currently in development. Watch three and a half minutes from the game after the jump, where protagonist Jason Brody is trying to save his girlfriend.

Setting and Development
Far Cry 3 takes place on a tropical island found somewhere at the intersection of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This lush and dangerous environment is filled with wildlife, hostile inhabitants, and hidden secrets. The game is currently being developed by a collaboration of several Ubisoft studios, including Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Massive, Ubisoft Reflections, and Ubisoft Shanghai. This multi-studio effort aims to bring a rich and immersive experience to players, combining the strengths and expertise of each team.
The game is set for release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in early September 2012. The developers have promised a vast open-world experience, with a focus on exploration, survival, and combat. Players will have the freedom to approach missions in various ways, whether through stealth, direct confrontation, or using the environment to their advantage.
Gameplay and Features
In the newly released trailer, we get a glimpse of the single-player gameplay, showcasing the intense and dynamic action that players can expect. Protagonist Jason Brody finds himself stranded on the island, and his primary goal is to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend. The trailer highlights the game’s stunning visuals, fluid combat mechanics, and the emotional depth of the storyline.
Far Cry 3 introduces several new gameplay features, including a skill tree system that allows players to customize Jason’s abilities to suit their playstyle. Players can unlock new skills and upgrades by earning experience points through completing missions and defeating enemies. The game also features a crafting system, where players can create weapons, tools, and other useful items from resources found on the island.
The island itself is a character in its own right, with diverse ecosystems ranging from dense jungles to arid plains. Players will encounter a variety of wildlife, some of which can be hunted for resources, while others pose a significant threat. The dynamic weather system and day-night cycle add another layer of realism and challenge to the game.
Multiplayer and Community Engagement
In addition to the single-player campaign, Far Cry 3 will feature a robust multiplayer mode. Ubisoft has hinted at various multiplayer modes, including cooperative missions and competitive gameplay. The closed beta announced last week will provide players with an early look at these multiplayer features, allowing the developers to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before the official release.
Ubisoft is also focusing on community engagement, encouraging players to share their experiences and feedback through forums and social media. This approach aims to create a strong and active player community, ensuring that the game continues to evolve and improve based on player input.
Far Cry 3 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the year, with its combination of stunning visuals, engaging gameplay, and a compelling storyline. Fans of the series and newcomers alike have much to look forward to when the game launches in September.
