Starting today, Facebook is testing a new, redesigned Messenger on Android that brings many new features, improved messaging and a fresh UI to the application. Currently, the redesigned application is being used by a limited number of beta testers.
The new update comes with a clean and modern UI, which is quite different from the classic Facebook look. With the new version, you’ll have a clear indication on whose using the new Messenger application. There will be an icon right next to the contact and Facebook mentions that the user will be notified instantly about your message.
Secondly, the application allows users to SMS their friends who aren’t using Facebook directly from the Messenger. The application gives users the ability to get in touch with their friends who aren’t on Facebook using their phone number.
What about the people you text with who aren’t your Facebook friends? Now you just need a contact’s phone number to begin texting others using Messenger. To help people reach you, you’ll be asked to confirm your phone number.
Lastly, the application comes with a new look that provides quick access to your recent conversations by swiping from left to right or from the top of the screen.
The application is being tested with a limited number of users, but Facebook didn’t mention anything about the selection criteria or how many people are using the new application. If you can see the update with the redesigned application, share with us using the comments below.
