Yesterday, the notorious @evleaks posted some codenames of alleged Nokia devices which are expected to hit retail later this year.
On the other hand, Microsoft is expected to close out the Nokia acquisition deal later this month. Recently, some more codenames of the Microsoft devices were leaked by the folks at WPCentral.
Leaked Codenames and Their Potential
All the leaked codenames are expected to see the light of the day in summers, but much is not known about these devices at the moment. Some of them are accessories, while others could be anything — smartphones, tablets, etc. The codenames include Microsoft Hughes, Microsoft Adcock, Microsoft Capers, Microsoft Galway, and Microsoft Dublin. Out of these five, three are expected to launch in June, while the remaining two will see the light of the day in July.
These codenames have sparked a lot of speculation within the tech community. For instance, Microsoft Hughes could potentially be a high-end smartphone designed to compete with the latest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy models. Microsoft Adcock might be a mid-range device aimed at capturing a broader market segment. Microsoft Capers could be an innovative accessory, perhaps a new type of wearable technology or a smart home device. Microsoft Galway and Microsoft Dublin might be tablets or even hybrid devices that combine the functionality of a laptop and a tablet, similar to the Surface Pro series.
Microsoft’s Strategic Moves
The timing of these leaks is particularly interesting given Microsoft’s impending acquisition of Nokia. This deal is expected to significantly bolster Microsoft’s hardware capabilities, allowing them to better compete in the highly competitive mobile and tablet markets. The acquisition will also give Microsoft access to Nokia’s extensive patent portfolio, which could be a game-changer in terms of innovation and development.
Moreover, the leaked codenames suggest that Microsoft is planning a diverse range of products to cater to different market needs. This aligns with their broader strategy of creating an ecosystem of devices that work seamlessly together, from smartphones and tablets to laptops and smart home devices. For example, the rumored Surface Mini tablet could be a part of this ecosystem, offering a more portable option for users who need the functionality of a Surface device but in a smaller form factor.
It’s also worth noting that Microsoft has been investing heavily in cloud services and artificial intelligence. These new devices could potentially leverage these technologies to offer unique features and capabilities. For instance, a new smartphone could come with advanced AI-driven features for better user experience, or a tablet could offer enhanced productivity tools that integrate seamlessly with Microsoft’s cloud services.
They could very well be Microsoft branded Windows Phone devices, or the rumored Surface Mini tablet, but we’re not sure. A grain of salt is advised as there’s an equal chance that some of them may not hit retail as there’s no word from Microsoft about them.
We’ll update you if we come across anything else.
