Activision Blizzard Inc seems to have taken a U-turn on its “we will never, ever charge for multiplayer,” stance as expressed by CEO Eric Hirschberg, and will now be rolling out a new subscription service called Call Of Duty Elite with its new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game when it launches on November 8th, 2011.
The new Call Of Duty Elite will be a monthly subscription plan reserved for Elite members but will also include free elements, and online matches will still be free.

Features of Call Of Duty Elite
The new monthly subscription fee will provide extra content that isn’t offered on store-bought game disks and will include new content such as downloadable map packs that give players new “Call of Duty” levels to play. This service aims to enhance the gaming experience by offering exclusive features and content that are not available to non-subscribers. For instance, Elite members will have access to detailed player statistics, strategy guides, and the ability to form clans and participate in clan-based competitions.
Additionally, Call Of Duty Elite will offer a social networking component, allowing players to connect with friends, share their achievements, and compare their performance with others. This feature is designed to foster a sense of community among players and encourage more interaction within the game.
Community and Competitive Play
One of the most exciting aspects of Call Of Duty Elite is its focus on competitive play. Elite members will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive tournaments and events, with the chance to win real-world prizes. This competitive element is expected to attract a large number of dedicated players who are looking to test their skills against the best in the world.
Moreover, the service will include a theater mode, allowing players to record and share their gameplay footage. This feature is particularly appealing to content creators and streamers who want to showcase their skills and create engaging content for their audience. The ability to analyze and review gameplay footage can also help players improve their strategies and performance.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing has been released as yet by Activision Blizzard Inc, but as soon as it becomes available, we will let you know. The introduction of a subscription service marks a significant shift in the company’s approach to monetizing its popular franchise. While some players may be hesitant to pay for additional content, others may see the value in the exclusive features and enhanced gaming experience that Call Of Duty Elite offers.
What are your thoughts on a new subscription service? Do you think the additional features and content justify the cost, or do you believe that multiplayer gaming should remain free? Share your opinions in the comments below.
