When you go to a big tech show, you never know what you are going to run across. There are always plenty of traditional gadgets and electronics and often there are some things that surprise you. One of those surprising products at IFA 2011 is this autonomous wheelchair.
The chair uses a Kinect sensor to scan the person’s environment and move them to and from waypoints in a home, such as different rooms. The caregiver or the user can program in the waypoints and then the wheelchair drives to the points automatically.
The sensor allows the chair to navigate without running into anything that might be in the way like pets, people, or furniture. This would be a great way for paralyzed people that have a hard time working traditional controls to be able to get around in the home.
