A new backpack has been developed with wheels to allow travellers to carry substantial amounts of kit with ease. The versatile backpack system has this week launched via Kickstarter with the aim of raising €25,000 over the next 30 days to make the jump into production. “ With a 70L capacity, Atlas is big enough for a long trip, and its versatility means you can go across a range of different terrains without being held back by your bag”. Check out the promotional video below to learn more about the features including suitcase opening, 3D padding, YKK zips, lightweight design and detachable trolley section.
The design and development team at Atlas Sabbatical explain more about the inspiration behind the backpack with wheels. “You can’t always travel light. For those trips where you need to bring more things, there are basically three different kinds of luggage options: a big suitcase, a hiking backpack, or a wheeled large capacity backpack. Suitcases have a major drawback: they become a big problem if the floor is not suitable for rolling or when you have to climb stairs. Hiking backpacks are heavy, load from the top making them impractical, unsightly and not suitable for the city – and regular wheeled large capacity backpacks combine the worst elements of backpacks and suitcases. They’re are rigid, very uncomfortable to carry on the back, and unstable when rolling – ever wondered why they’re not popular?”
