Apple will be releasing their iOS 12 software update later today, the update will bring a wide range of new features to the iPhone and iPad and now we have some details on when it will land.
Apple normally releases their major software updates around 10AM Pacific Time, this is 6PM (BST) in the UK, 1PM Eastern Time in the US.
Performance Improvements and New Features
The new iOS 12 software will bring a range of speed and performance improvements to existing Apple devices. We have already seen some videos which show this on various models of the iPhone and iPad. For instance, older devices like the iPhone 6 and iPad Air are expected to see noticeable speed boosts, making them more responsive and extending their usability.
In addition to performance enhancements, iOS 12 will introduce a new range of features. One of the most anticipated features is the Group FaceTime, which allows up to 32 participants to join a single video call. This is a significant upgrade from the previous version, which only supported one-on-one video calls.
Enhanced Siri and Time Management Tools
The new version of iOS also brings an improved Siri. Siri Shortcuts is a new feature that allows users to create custom voice commands to trigger specific actions in apps. For example, you can create a shortcut to order your favorite coffee from a local café app just by saying, “Hey Siri, order my coffee.”
Another significant addition is the new range of time management and focus tools. These tools are designed to let you know how much time you spend on your device and various apps. The Screen Time feature provides detailed reports on your daily and weekly usage, allowing you to set limits on how much time you spend on specific apps. This is particularly useful for parents who want to monitor and control their children’s screen time.
The Do Not Disturb feature has also been enhanced. You can now set it to automatically turn off after a certain time or location, ensuring that you are not disturbed during important meetings or while you are at a specific place, like a movie theater.
Additional Features and Improvements
iOS 12 also introduces Memoji, a new type of customizable Animoji that allows users to create animated characters that look like themselves. This feature is available on devices with Face ID, such as the iPhone X and later models. Memoji can be used in Messages and FaceTime, adding a fun and personalized touch to your communications.
Another noteworthy feature is the improved Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities. The new ARKit 2 allows for shared experiences, meaning multiple users can interact with the same AR environment on their individual devices. This opens up new possibilities for gaming, education, and various other applications.
The Photos app has also received a significant update. The new For You tab combines Memories and iCloud Shared Albums, offering personalized suggestions on how to improve your photos and videos. The search functionality has been enhanced, making it easier to find specific photos based on events, people, or places.
As soon as we get some more details on the exact release time of the software, we will let you guys know.
