We have been hearing rumors about Apple’s self driving cars for some time, the company has previously been working on hardware and software and then switched to producing self driving car software.
Apple has not confirmed their involvement with self driving cars until now, in an interview with Bloomberg, Tim Cook has now confirmed that the company is working on ‘autonomous systems’ for self driving cars.
We’re focusing on autonomous systems,” Cook said in an interview on Bloomberg Television on June 5. “It’s a core technology that we view as very important.”
“We sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects,” Cook said in his most detailed comments to date on Apple’s plans in the car space. “It’s probably one of the most difficult A.I. projects actually to work on.”
The Apple CEO did not reveal exactly what the company is working on, so we still could see an Apple Car, they may decide to switch back to making the hardware in the future as well as the software.
