Apple and HTC recently signed a licensing deal where HTC would pay Apple a fee for each Android device it produces to cover patent which Apple claims some Android devices infringe.
We heard recently that Samsung had requested from the courts that the details of the deal between HTC and Apple be made available, as they believe that the patents that Apple have licensed to HTC are the ones that Apple have refused to license to Samsung in the past, and these patent are allegedly part of the lawsuit where Apple were awarded over $1 billion in damages from Samsung.
Now it would appear that Samsung will get to see exactly what the patent deal is between Apple and HTC, as the court has now ordered Apple to produce a full copy of the agreement between the two companies.
If Apple’s deal with HTC does cover some of the patents that are included in the lawsuit against Samsung, then it could end up being beneficial for Samsung, who may be able to appeal the $1 billion dollar damages and it could also allow Samsung to reach a similar deal to HTC, although they have said previously that they are not interested in licensing patents from Apple.
