A recent Apple US Patent has revealed plans that Apple might be looking at including a secure Cloud storage feature into its Mac OS X operating system in the near future. The Patent named “File Management Safe Deposit Box.” hints at a storage service using a deposit box icon on the Mac desktop that allows users to simply drag and drop files on to it to keep them safe and securely backed up to the Cloud.
Other features of the “Safe Deposit Box” include the ability to allow access to files for short periods of time and also restrict access to the data and files within the box unless a correct access code is entered.
The Cloud backup feature would automatically create a copy of a local file when dropped on the application icon and save it securely to the Cloud, with Apple describing the service as similar to a physical safe or safe deposit box at a bank.
