Yesterday we heard a rumor that Apple is working on a new Apple mobile payments system, Apple has yet to confirm this, although their CEO, Tim Cook did mention mobile payments in yesterdays earnings call.
Tim Cook revealed in the earnings call that Apple are ‘intrigued’ by mobile payments, and this was one of their ‘thoughts’ behind Touch ID.
The mobile payments area in general is one that we’ve been intrigued with. It was one of the thoughts behind Touch ID.
He also said that people love being able to buy digital content using Touch ID, and that Apple is not planning to limit TouchID purchases to just digital content.
Whilst this is not confirmation that Apple has a new mobile payments system in the works, it does confirm that it is something that the company is considering.
Apple has the perfect platform to launch a mobile payment system, which could be an extension of iTunes, allowing their hundreds of millions of existing customers who already use iTunes to easily make mobile payments with their iPhone.
As soon as we get some more information on this new mobile payments system from Apple, including details on how it will work and when it will be available, we will let you guys know.
