Apple Maps does not offer public transit directions at the moment, although it looks like this may be a feature that Apple intends to add to Apple Maps in the future.
A new Apple Job listing gives us a clue that Apple may be looking to add public transit directions to Apple Maps, as they are looking for a new engineer to work as part of their ‘Transit routing team’.
As a member of the Transit Routing team, you will work on one of the most anticipated features of Apple Maps. You will design and implement functionality that will be used by millions of users worldwide.
Apple has been working on their Apple Maps since it launched with iOS 6 and replaced Google Maps as the built in mapping app on iOS, the app came under quite a bit of criticism when it launched.
Apple recently released Apple Maps for the Mac, when OS X Mavericks launched this month, adding transit directions and real time information would be a useful feature that would definitely improve their mapping software.
Apple are still having a number of issues with their Apple Maps software, although it does seem a lot better than when it launched last year, although it is still not quite as good as Google Maps.
