Last week we heard from Apple CEO TIM Cook that Apple would be showing off the next major version of their mobile OS, Apple iOS 7, at this month’s WWDC. Now, it looks like we have some details on some of the new features for iOS 7.
Apple iOS 7 is expected to feature a completely new design with a ‘flatter’ look. The design team for iOS 7 is apparently being run by Apple’s Jony Ive, who is known for his minimalist design philosophy. This new design is anticipated to move away from the skeuomorphic elements that have characterized previous versions of iOS, such as the leather-bound appearance of the Calendar app or the wooden shelves in iBooks. Instead, users can expect a more streamlined and modern interface that emphasizes simplicity and ease of use.

Introducing AirDrop
One of the new features expected to launch with iOS 7 is AirDrop. AirDrop will let you share files wirelessly between devices, a feature that is already available in Apple’s OS X Lion. This functionality is expected to make its way to Apple’s iOS devices with the launch of iOS 7. AirDrop will allow users to easily share photos, documents, and other files with nearby iOS devices without the need for email or messaging apps. This feature will be particularly useful in collaborative environments, such as classrooms or offices, where quick and easy file sharing is essential.
AirDrop uses a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to create a peer-to-peer network between devices. This means that you don’t need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to use AirDrop; the devices will create their own network. This feature is designed to be secure, with files being encrypted during transfer to ensure privacy and data protection.
Other Anticipated Features
In addition to AirDrop, there are several other features and improvements that are rumored to be part of iOS 7. One such feature is a revamped Notification Center, which will provide more customization options and better integration with other apps. Users may also see improvements to the multitasking interface, making it easier to switch between apps and manage background processes.
Another expected enhancement is the integration of more advanced Siri capabilities. Apple’s voice assistant is likely to receive updates that will make it more responsive and capable of handling a wider range of tasks. This could include deeper integration with third-party apps, allowing users to perform more complex actions using voice commands.
There are also rumors of new gesture controls that will allow users to navigate their devices more intuitively. These gestures could include new ways to access the home screen, switch between apps, and control various settings without the need for physical buttons.
We should have more details about iOS 7 and also AirDrop for the iPhone and iPad at Apple’s WWDC 2013 later this month. The conference is expected to be a major event for Apple, with many developers and tech enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the latest announcements. In addition to iOS 7, there may be other significant updates and product launches that will shape the future of Apple’s ecosystem.
