Apple has been granted a design patent by the USPTO for their new Apple Watch, the design patent can be seen in the picture below.
Apple originally filed the patent for the Apple Watch with the USPTO in August of 2014, just before the Apple Watch was made official.
The patent filing also included reference material for existing devices on the market, which included Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, the Pebble smartwatch, the Metawatch and a $15,000 Hermes Carre H Watch, which has a similar design to that of the Apple Watch.
The new patent for the Apple’s Watch design only applies to the US, so this wont stop companies in other countries like China, producing devices similar to the Apple Watch.
We have already seen a number of fake Watch designs from China, whether Apple will be able to do anything to stop these remains to be seen.
