Apple’s iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 software updates are now available and they come with tons of new features for the iPhone and iPad. These updates bring a fresh look and enhanced functionality to your devices, making them more powerful and user-friendly than ever before.
The guys over at MacRumors have put together a great video of 8 tips to get you started with iOS 14, let’s find out what they are.
Key Features of iOS 14
As we can see from the video, there are some great tips to get you started and organize your home screen and set up the widgets and more. One of the standout features of iOS 14 is the introduction of widgets on the home screen. These widgets can be customized in various sizes and placed anywhere on the home screen, providing quick access to information and apps you use the most. For example, you can have a weather widget showing the current conditions and forecast, or a calendar widget displaying your upcoming events.
Another significant addition is the App Library, which automatically organizes all your apps into one simple, easy-to-navigate view. This feature helps you declutter your home screen by categorizing apps into groups such as Social, Entertainment, and Productivity. You can also hide entire pages of apps to streamline your home screen further.
Enhanced Privacy and Security
Apple has always prioritized user privacy, and iOS 14 takes this commitment even further. The new update includes several privacy enhancements designed to give you more control over your data. For instance, you can now choose to share your approximate location with apps instead of your precise location. This is particularly useful for apps that don’t need to know exactly where you are, such as weather apps.
Additionally, iOS 14 introduces a new feature called App Tracking Transparency, which requires apps to get your permission before tracking your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. This gives you greater insight into how your data is being used and more control over your privacy.
Another noteworthy feature is the new privacy information section on the App Store. This section provides a summary of the privacy practices of each app before you download it, helping you make more informed decisions about the apps you use.
Apple’s iOS 14 software is now available to download for the iPhone and iPadOS 14 for the iPad. You can install it by going to Settings > General > Software update on your device.
Additional Features and Improvements
iOS 14 also brings several other improvements and new features to enhance your overall experience. For example, the Messages app now supports pinned conversations, allowing you to keep your most important chats at the top of the list. You can also use mentions and inline replies in group chats, making it easier to follow conversations and respond to specific messages.
The new Translate app is another exciting addition, offering real-time translation for 11 languages. This app can be used for text and voice translations, making it a valuable tool for travelers and language learners.
Siri has also received an upgrade in iOS 14, with a more compact design that doesn’t take up the entire screen. Siri can now send audio messages and provide more accurate answers to a broader range of questions.
Finally, the new Picture-in-Picture mode allows you to continue watching videos or taking FaceTime calls while using other apps. This feature is perfect for multitasking and ensures you never miss a moment of your favorite content.
