Google’s Android OS is steadily becoming a very popular smartphone OS, especially amongst new smartphone buyers as Neilsen are reporting that Android now makes up about 32 percent of new smartphones purchased over the last six months.
This compares to 25 percent for the iPhone over the same period, and 26 percent for RIM devices, although we should bear in mind that the data cover one full month of availability of the new iPhone 4.
It will be interesting to see how these figures stack up over the next six months, and whether the launch of the new iPhone 4 will be enough to put Apple back on the top spot for new smartphone purchases.
