Infinity has announced the 2019 QX50 crossover and it’s very cool. The new QX50 looks good and has the luxury you expect from an Infiniti. It also has something that is all-new in the automotive industry, an engine that can adjust its compression ratio on the fly for optimized performance and efficiency.
The engine is called the VC-Turbo and Infiniti promises that the 2.0L turbo engine deliveries the torque and efficiency of a four-cylinder diesel while using gas. The engine makes 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The QX50 with this engine under the hood will deliver a 35% fuel economy improvement compared to the outgoing V6 for the FWD model.
That means expected economy of 27 mpg for the FWD flavor and 26 mpg for the AWD version. The 2019 QX50 also comes with driver assist tech that will support control of the throttle, brakes, and steering for single lane highway driving.
