Earlier this month, Instagram announced that ads are now coming to the popular social network and will appear on user’s timelines. Today, the folks at Instagram posted an example image of how the ads would appear in the timeline of the users. It looks identical to the normal posts you would see on your timeline, the only difference is that it will have a “Sponsored” tag on the top right corner – the place where it usually shows the time stamp.
If you’re in the United States, you’ll see the sample ad above sometime in the coming week. This is a one-time ad from the Instagram team that’s meant to give you a sense for the look and feel of the ads you will see. You’ll know a photo or video is an advertisement when you see the “Sponsored” label where the time stamp normally would be. Tap this label to learn more about how advertising works on Instagram.
Instagram mentions that the sample ads will start appearing in the coming week; however, there’s no word when the original ad campaign will start. Instagram said that they are starting it with a handful of brands who are already active members of Instagram. If you see an ad that you dont like, simply tap on the “…” button to hide it and provide feedback to the folk at Instagram about it.
In the end, Instagram also mentions that you own your photos and videos and the introduction of ads won’t have any affect on it so you can keep on using the social network without any worries.
