Yesterday Google announced that it has acquired the development team at Nik Software, who have been responsible for creating the awesome photography enhancement iOS application Snapseed.
Snapseed was first launched back in the middle of 2011 and brought with it a unique user interface and tools to enhance and manipulate photographs on your iOS devices.

Since then it has launched applications for both Android and Mac systems, allowing users to enjoy the tools on any device. As well as Snapseed, Nik Software has developed a range of awesome photographic plug-ins. Nik Software explained in a blog post:
“For nearly 17 years, we’ve been guided by our motto, ‘photography first,’ as we worked to build world class digital image editing tools,”
Financial terms of the deal for Nik Software were not disclosed, but Google’s vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra explained.
“We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone,”,
Its seems that Google is looking to counter measure the recent Facebook move to acquire Instagram earlier in the year, and it will be interesting to see how Google incorporates the new purchase into its suite of services and products, over the coming months.
