For those of you that enjoy posting longer Facebook Status updates, if you found the 5,000 character limit a little restrictive. You will be please to know that today Facebook has now increased the limit to a massive 63,206 characters. Allowing you to now include lots more content.
The new longer Facebook status updates will still appear in the Live Ticker but will be truncated at around 80 characters. However within the News Feed the truncation will happen at around 400 characters.
If you are wondering why Facebook came up with such a strange figure for their character limit. Facebook engineer Bob Baldwin explains:
“I set the exact limit to something nerdy. Facebook … Face Boo K … hex(FACE) – K … 64206 – 1000 = 63206 :-)”.
