We have heard before that YouTube intends to add a movie rental service to its website, and from this Friday YouTube is offering movie rentals to help promote some of the movies that will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival.
This is a great way for YouTube to test the service, and they are hoping to encourage movie studios to offer movies to rent through their website.
The first movies will cost $3.99 for 48 hours, and YouTube are expected to offer movie studios the ability to set their own pricing from movie rentals, this is something that could appeal to the studios and make them choose YouTube over other online movie rental services.
I suspect that with everything Google does, their YouTube movie rental service will end up being very popular, it will be interesting to see how it works and whether they will offer HD movie rentals.
